Drs. Ellison, Cheek, Evangelist, Oliver, McWhirter and Johnson provide medical care in the hospital and office setting. Hospital services are provided at The Medical Center and Doctors Hospital in Columbus*. They participate in the Pediatric After Hours Program providing acute care on weeknights, weekends and holidays.

Drs. Carroll and Roberts work with us in providing office based care to our acutely ill patients. They typically see patients that are sick and need to be seen on the same day.
Dr. Ellison received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Tennessee in 1974 and his Medical Doctorate there in 1977. He spent his residency and training at the Brook Army Medical Center, Fort San in Houston, Texas. Dr. Ellison is a Board Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics. He has served the Columbus area since 1983 and in private practice since 1987.

He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics, Georgia Chapter, the Medical Association of Georgia and the Muscogee County Medical Society. He serves on the Pediatrics Faculty at Doctors Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Ellison served as Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves.

Dr. Ellison enjoys woodworking, golf and spending time with his family. He is married to Charlene Wolfe Ellison and has two sons, John and Matthew, and a daughter Laura.

Dr. Cheek is a native of Farmville, North Carolina and moved to Columbus in 1985. She earned her Bachelor of Science, Medical Technology from the University of North Carolina. She received her Masters in Health Education from The Medical College of Georgia in Augusta where she also earned her Medical Doctorate. Dr. Cheek served her residency at Emory University, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She was also chief resident of Pediatrics at Emory University.

Dr. Cheek was board certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics in 1987 and re-certified in 2000. She has been practicing in Columbus since 1986.

She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics (Georgia Chapter), the Medical Association of Georgia, and the Muscogee County Medical Society. Dr. Cheek serves on the Pediatric Faculty at Doctors Hospital and Medical Center.

Her hobbies include reading, hiking and spending time helping out with her children's activities. She is married to Dr. Ben Cheek, OB/GYN and the mother of Holly, Hugh(twins), and A.J.

Dr. Evangelist received her Bachelor of Science in Biology/Pre-Med from Georgia Southern University. She then went on to earn her Medical Doctorate from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. She completed her pediatric residency at The University of Florida (Shands Hospital).

She is a Board Certified Diplomat of The American Academy of Pediatrics and serves on the Pediatric Faculty at Doctors Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Evangelist is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics (Georgia Chapter), the Medical Association of Georgia and the Muscogee County Medical Society. She served as Chief of Pediatrics, Doctors Hospital, 2002-2004

She is married, to Brad Evangelist and has 3 sons, Joseph, Jacob and Abraham, and a daughter Arabella.

Dr. Oliver is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and has been practicing in Columbus since July 2000. He received his Bachelor of Art/Pre-Med from the University of Notre Dame and his Medical Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Oliver completed his residency at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.

He is a Board Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics and serves on the Pediatrics Faculty at Doctors Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Oliver is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics (Georgia Chapter), the Medical Association of Georgia and the Muscogee County Medical Society.

His hobbies include golf, chess and spending time with his family. Dr. Oliver is married to Katrina Childers Oliver and has four sons, Charlie, Matthew, Nicholas and Benjamin.

Dr. McWhirter is a native of Glen Burnie, Maryland and has been practicing in Columbus since 2001. She received her Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Maryland and her Medical Doctorate from Emory University in Atlanta. She completed her residency at Emory University, Children's Health Care of Atlanta and Grady Hospital. She was Pediatric Chief Resident, Clinical Instructor at Emory University.

Dr. McWhirter is a Board Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics and serves on the Pediatrics Faculty at Doctors Hospital and Medical Center.

She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics (Georgia Chapter), the Medical Association of Georgia and the Muscogee County Medical Society.

She has a daughter, Sophia and a son, Thomas.

Dr. Johnson received her Bachelor of Arts, French from Tulane University. She continued her education at Eastern Virginia Medical School where she earned her Doctor of Medicine. She attended Emory University for a Pediatric Internship and completed the Family Practice Residency Program locally through The Medical Center.

She serves on the Pediatric Faculty at Doctors Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics (Georgia Chapter), the Medical Association of Georgia and the Muscogee County Medical Society.

She is married, to Scott Johnson, D.D.S. and has 2 children, Madeleine and Sidney.

Dr. Roberts is a native of Columbus and returned to her hometown after practicing at Egleston Treatment Center in Atlanta for eight years. She received her Medical Doctorate from Duke University and completed her residency at Emory University.

She is a Board Certified Diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Roberts is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics (Georgia Chapter) and the Medical Association of Georgia. She has a special interest in developmental problems, school problems and ADD/ADHD.

Dr. Carroll is a native of Columbus and has been practicing here since 1997. She earned her Bachelor of Science and her Medical Doctorate from the University of South Alabama. Dr. Carroll completed her Pediatric Residency at the University of South Alabama and her Neonatal Fellowship at the University of North Carolina.

She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Pediatrics (Georgia Chapter), the Medical Association of Georgia and the Muscogee County Medical Society.

Dr. Carroll enjoys Bible studies and gardening. She is married to Banks Carroll, M.D., (Family Practice Physician) and has three sons, Thomas, Wilson and Andrew.
