Are We a Good Fit?
New Patient Checklist
When selecting a pediatric practice for your children, it is essential to thoughtfully consider how well our practice philosophy aligns with your own values and expectations.
High-quality care is best achieved when physicians and office staff work in harmony with a family's priorities and approach to medical care. This alignment fosters mutual respect and enables effective shared decision-making.
We encourage you to review the following checklist carefully to determine if Rivertown Pediatrics is the right medical home for your family.
We look forward to welcoming you and building a positive, collaborative relationship.

Vaccines
Our Vaccine Policy adheres to the immunization schedule recommended by The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). We believe this schedule is grounded in rigorous scientific research and is essential for protecting your child’s health and well-being. If you choose not to vaccinate your children, we understand that our practice may not be the best fit for your family, and we encourage you to seek care from a provider whose philosophy more closely aligns with your own.
Antibiotics
We are committed to the responsible use of antibiotics and strive to avoid their overuse. We educate families on when antibiotics are appropriate, adhering to evidence-based guidelines rather than automatically prescribing them for symptoms such as ear pain or green nasal discharge.
Additionally, we do not routinely prescribe antibiotics over the phone, as we believe thorough evaluation is essential to good medical care. Antibiotics will be prescribed only when we determine they are the appropriate treatment.
Technology
Our practice takes pride in enhancing efficiency through the use of technology. We encourage you to explore our website, register for and actively use our patient portal, and take advantage of automated reminders for appointments and routine care, including immunizations.
Prior to your appointment, you will receive Pre-Check links via text or email. Completing these forms in advance allows your provider to be fully prepared for your visit, helping to streamline your experience.
Appointment Types
We recommend age-appropriate well-child checkups in accordance with the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
To best serve our patients, we offer a variety of appointment options, including routine visits with extended hours, walk-in services for sick children, and telemedicine consultations. For your convenience, self-scheduling is available through our Patient Portal.
Scheduled Appointments
If your child is ill, please call our office for guidance. Our nursing staff will assist you in determining whether an office visit is necessary.
For routine well visits, we encourage you to reequest appointments conveniently through the Patient Portal or by using our self-scheduling feature.
After Hours
We have a physician on call 24/7/365. If our office is closed overnight and your child has an urgent issue that cannot wait until morning, please call our main number. The on-call provider will be available to offer guidance and advice regarding your child’s condition.
We also encourage you to visit the "Is Your Child Sick?" ssection of our website for helpful information before utilizing after-hours services. For more details, please read more about our After Hours care.
Insurance
Please ensure that we participate in your insurance plan and that we are designated as your Primary Care Physician.
It is your responsibility to understand the coverage and limitations of your specific health insurance policy and to be prepared to pay any applicable copayments at the time of service.
For any questions about your insurance coverage, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly. While our office strives to prevent any unexpected charges, we are required to bill your health plan in accordance with federal guidelines and based on the actual services rendered.
For additional details, please refer to our Financial Policy.
Billing
Insurance copays are expected to be paid at the time of service.
Routine well-child visits are often conveniently scheduled alongside medication rechecks or follow-up appointments. Please be aware that your insurance may apply a copay to these combined visits.
Timeliness & Missed Appointments
Our practice strives to run on schedule, recognizing that everyone’s time is valuable. As a courtesy, we will send reminders of your upcoming appointments via phone, text message, or email.
We understand that unexpected situations may require you to cancel or reschedule. Please notify us at least 48 hours in advance so we can accommodate another child in need of care.
