Tick Bites
Tick bites are very common this time of year and there are a variety of species commonly found around our neck of the woods. If you find a tick latched onto your skin after enjoying a day outside, prompt removal of the tick is key! Using tweezers it is important to remove the tick in its entirety as soon as you first notice the tick. Taking pictures of the tick and noting how long the tick was latched is helpful information if an office visit is indicated.
When is an office visit indicated? If you develop a fever, rash or joint pain after a tick bite please make an appointment with our office for further evaluation.
Remember prevention is the best treatment! If your child is 6 months and older, applying insect repellent spray with deet and wearing long sleeve clothing will help prevent tick bites. Also ensure you are doing a tick check after coming inside from the day.
